Michael Spitaletto

Biography

Michael Spitaletto was born and raised in Asbury Park, NJ. Upon graduating from Flagler College with a Bachelors degree in fine art and a minor in art history he decided to move to Los Angeles.

Statement

The joined panels are identical in size, 2 halves combined to create a whole, a whole representing union. Compositionally the panels fall short if they are divided in half, although together their picture is clear. As in any union they are needed to complete each other. Completely different on their own, but vital that they are together connected if they are to survive…the paintings themselves are a visual diary of the response to the challenges which arise when a union is severed.

These works incorporate the use of written words as well, each vying for attention, the overall finish having an urban/weathered appearance.They are mixed media...oil/acrylic/graphite/permanent marker...opaque paints/overglazes, etc...

Part painted journal, a bit of information overload, provoking thought, in hopes that you may see yourself in me and I in you…
